Prescribed Burn in the Apalachicola National Forest Today (Feb. 8)
A prescribed burn will be conducted in the Apalachicola National Forest today in Areas #55 and #202.
See the Apalachicola National Forest Prescribed Burn Map for locations.
About 1,200 acres will undergo burning in Area #55, and about 680 acres will undergo burning in Area #202 near Silver Lake.
Drivers and residents are reminded of the possiblity of unexpected shifting winds that could increase the risk of smoke on the road during prescribed burns. Always proceed with caution, reduce speed and turn headlights on if visibility is affected by smoky conditions.
Prescribed burns are integral to promoting a healthy forest by reducting fuels, improving all wildlife habitat, controlling competing vegetation, controlling disease and improving forage.
