Prescribed Burn on Apalachicola National Forest Today (April 28)
The Apalachicola National Forest is conducting a prescribed burn of approximately 1,100 acres in unit #252 near Highway 319 and Springhill Highway. Please see map to locate approximate vicinity of the prescribed burn in the northeast area of the forest.
Drivers and residents are reminded of the possibility of unexpected shifting winds that could increase the risk of smoke on the road during prescribed burns. Always proceed with caution and please reduce speed and turn headlights on if visibility is affected by smoky conditions.
Prescribed fire is integral in improving wildlife habitat, eliminating vegetation buildup and reducing the threat of wildfires.
