Prescribed Burn on Apalachicola National Forest Today (March 30)

The Apalachicola National Forest is conducting a prescribed burn of approximately 1,400 acres in Unit #240 today.  See the Apalachicola National Forest Prescribed Burning Map.  The location is off Smith Creek Highway (Hwy 375) and Forest Road 309.

Drivers and residents are reminded of the possibility of unexpected shifting winds that could increase the risk of smoke on the road during prescribed burns.  Always proceed with caution, please reduce speed and turn headlights on if visibility is affected by smoky conditions.

Prescribed fire is integral in improving wildlife habitat, eliminating vegetation buildup and reducing the threat of wildfire.
