Recovery Act Projects Improve Lake Eaton Loop and Sinkhole Trails
Umatilla, Fl. – Portions of the Lake Eaton Loop and Sinkhole Trails on the Ocala National Forest will be closed while improvements are made to the trails. Improvements to the trails include replacing portions of wooden boardwalks, observation decks and steps along with new interpretive kiosks.
The shorter loop on the Lake Eaton Sinkhole Trail that leads to the sinkhole is closed. The longer loop will remain open but will not provide access to the sinkhole.
The Lake Eaton Loop Trail will remain open but observation decks overlooking the lake may be closed depending on the stage of construction. All decks are to be replaced.
This project is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (The Recovery Act). The Recovery Act has funded 191 projects located on National Forest System lands in 32 states. The Forest Service is using these funds to improve, maintain and renovate public and administrative facilities. The Recovery Act was created to promote more jobs, especially for hard hit work forces, such as the construction industry, and build a better, stronger economy.
